Alongside the artistry of ice sculptures and bustling vendors, the Chili Tasting Competition remains a core attraction that reinforces the Fire & Ice Festival’s mission:
To bring people together, support local businesses, and warm hearts during the coldesttime of the year.
Whether you’re a competing chef, a returning festival goer, or a first-time visitor, the Chili Tasting embodies the fiery energy and community spirit that make the Fire & Ice Festival a beloved Mount Holly tradition.
A Judging Process That Honors Quality and Tradition
The competition is evaluated by a panel of chef judges who are not only experts in food but also deeply connected to the regional culinary scene. These judges consider:
Flavor complexity
Texture and consistency
Presentation
Creativity
Crowd response for People’s Choice
Competing chefs must prepare their chili in a commercial kitchen and follow county health guidelines—ensuring both safety and high culinary standards. The public began tasting at noon, and every pot was emptied before 2 p.m., a testament to the enthusiasm surrounding the contest.
The competition is free to enter and highly coveted, offering:
$250 First Prize for Best Chili & a polished Chili Trophy
$100 for Most Creative Presentation
$100 for the People’s Choice Award
The Fire & Ice Festival has showcased remarkable talent over the years, and this year’s competitors continued that trend. Prizes reflect not only culinary excellence but also honor creativity, technique, and community engagement. Our Chefs also benefit from free publicity, recognition across festival promotions, and exposure to thousands of festivalgoers
This year’s winners are:
Chef Judges Choice: Hoop House
Peoples Choice: RCBC-Culinary School
Best Presentation: Robin’s Nest Restaurant
Congratulations to all who competed and voted in this year’s contest!
